Plant Description

Origin: Native
General Description: Evergreen. An aromatic narrow leaf shrub with resin like appearance.
Height: 4 feet     Width: 5 feet


Habitat

Plant Communities: Interior Chaparral, Pinyon Juniper Woodland
Elevation: 2000 - 7000 feet

Similar Species: Eriodictyon trichocalyx


Flower Characteristics

Color: White to Purple   Shape: Regular, not in clusters     Tubular: Y   Flowering Period: Apr - Aug
Description: White to pale lavender, funnel-shaped, 5 lobed with dark-tipped stamens, to 3/8 inch wide in loose terminal, clusters on upper branches.


Leaf Characteristics

Leaf Color: Green   Type: Simple   Shape: Narrow   Margin: Toothed   Attachment: Alternate   Hairs: Bottom of leaves
Description: Sticky, leathery, aromatic, dull dark green above and white-woolly lighter green beneath, linear, with prominent midvein and networked veins, slightly toothed to 4 inches long.

Fruit Characteristics

Color: Gray-brown   Type: Capsule   Description: Fruit forms a 4-valved seed capsule, oval in shape, which contains 1-8 hardened black striated seeds.


Bark Characteristics

Bark Color: Reddish-brown   Bark Texture (Mature): Rough   Bark and Branch Description: Reddish-brown. Woody at base. Older twigs and stems stringy, shredding bark.
