Origin: Native
General Description: Deciduous. Fast growing shrub forming in dense clumps found on slopes of dry washes.
Height: 6 feet     Width: 5 feet


Habitat

Plant Communities: Interior Chaparral, Semidesert Grasslands, Pinyon Juniper Woodland
Elevation: 3000 - 8000 feet

Similar Species: Cowania mexicana


Flower Characteristics

Color: White   Shape: Regular, not in clusters     Tubular: N   Flowering Period: Apr - Oct
Description: White 5 petaled rose-like and yellow centered to 2 inches wide.


Leaf Characteristics

Leaf Color: Gray-green   Type: Simple   Shape: Pinnatifid   Margin: Lobed   Attachment: Alternate   Hairs: N
Description: Divided into 3 to 7 linear lobes up to 3/4 inch long.
Spines: N


Fruit Characteristics

Color: White to Pinkish   Type: Feathery   Description: Feathery clusters of plumrose with fruits in the fall. Numerous small seeds with long (1 inch) feathery plumes, very numerous.


Bark Characteristics

Bark Color: Gray to Brownish   Bark Texture (Mature): Rough   Bark and Branch Description: Numerous branches at the base. Light gray-brown, irregularly ridged and furrowed, a bit shreddy.
