Plant Description

Origin: Native
General Description: Deciduous. An upright multi-stemed small shrub with an open crown.
Height: 6 feet     Width: 8 feet


Habitat

Plant Communities: Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Montane Conifer Forest
Elevation: 5500 - 9000 feet

Similar Species: Ribes aureum


Flower Characteristics

Color: White to Pink   Shape: Regular in clusters     Tubular: Y   Flowering Period: May - Jul
Description: White or pink, tubular and sticky to 3/8 inch long in groups of 1 to 4.


Leaf Characteristics

Leaf Color: Green   Type: Simple   Shape: Round or Oval   Margin: Lobed   Attachment: Alternate   Hairs: Top and bottom of leaves
Description: Alternate leaves. Light green with tiny white dots, sticky, 3 to 5 lobed, glandular-haired to 1 inch wide

Fruit Characteristics

Color: Yellowish-red, Orange-red, Red   Type: Berry-like   Description: Yellowish-red, orange-red, bright red to dark red, sticky fruits to 1/4 inch in diameter in a hanging cluster.


Bark Characteristics

Bark Color: Gray to Reddish   Bark Texture (Mature): Rough   Bark and Branch Description: Older growth branches gray, newer ones reddish-gray. Finely peeling on larger stems.
