Plant Description

Origin: Native
General Description: Deciduous. Erect shrub or an ascending vine with aerial roots. Generally found on tree trunks and any other structure. All parts have an oil skin irritant that causes a severe reaction in many individuals.
Height: 2 feet     Width: Varies depending on support


Habitat

Plant Communities: Riparian
Elevation: 3000 - 8000 feet


Flower Characteristics

Color: Greenish-white   Shape: Regular in round clusters     Tubular: N   Flowering Period: Apr - Sep
Description: Flowers are 1/4 inch wide in loose clusters to 3 inches long at lower leaf axils.


Leaf Characteristics

Leaf Color: Dark Green   Type: Compound   Shape: Round or Oval   Margin: Toothed   Attachment: Alternate   Hairs: N
Description: Dark green, compound, divided into 3 leaflets, usually shiny, oblong to lance-shaped to oval, notched or toothed, 4 inches long with red tinge when immature. Turns reddish-orange in fall.

Fruit Characteristics

Color: Yellowish-white   Type: Berry-like   Description: Cluster of 1/4 inch berry-like fruits.


Bark Characteristics

Bark Color: Tanish   Bark Texture (Mature): Rough   Bark and Branch Description: Tan woody stems. Aerial roots help attach vine to structures.
