Forb Plant Description

Origin: Native   Life Cycle: Perennial
General Desc: Native perennial with grass-like basal leaves and a few smaller leaves on upright, branched stems. Flowers are about 2 inches wide with three white to purplish petals and dark anthers.
Height: 2 feet


Habitat Description: Dry soils.
Plant Communities: Interior Chaparral, Semidesert Grasslands, Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Montane Conifer Forest, Disturbed Areas
Elevation: 3000 - 8000 feet

Flower Characteristics

Color: White to purplish     Shape: Regular not in clusters     Tubular: N     Flowering Period: May - Aug
Description: White to purplish flowers have 3 petals, depressed petal glands and dark anthers.

Leaf Color: Green     Leaf Type: Simple     Leaf Shape: Narrow     Leaf Margin: Smooth     Leaf Attachment: Basal and alternate     Leaves Clasp: N

Leaf Description: Grass-like basal leaves are 2 to 3 inches long and have a lengthwise groove. There are only a few smaller stem leaves. Basal leaves wither before the plant blossoms.
