Origin: Native   Life Cycle: Annual or perennial
General Desc: Annual twining vine; stems erect, trailing or twining.
Identification notes: Annual vining plant; leaves ovate, entire or 3-5-parted or palmately lobed; red tubular flowers on long peduncles.
Height: 2 - 5 feet

Habitat Description: Pinyon juniper woodland, montane conifer forest, riparian, chaparral.
Plant Communities: Interior Chaparral, Pinyon Juniper Woodland, Montane Conifer Forest, Riparian
Elevation: 2400 - 9100 feet


Flower Characteristics

Color: Red, orange red     Shape: Regular not in clusters     Tubular: Y     Flowering Period: May - Nov
Description: Flowers are orange to red arranged in groups of 3 to 7, opening successively from the center outward.


Leaf and Stem Characteristics

Leaf Color: Green     Leaf Type: Simple     Leaf Shape: Palmate     Leaf Margin: Smooth     Leaf Attachment: Alternate     Leaves Clasp: N

Leaf Description: Leaves ovate, entire or 3 to 5-parted or palmately lobed, 1-3/4 inches long, 1/3 to 2-3/4 inches wide.
