General Description

Desc: Spreading wiry annual lovegrass.

Leaf Arrangement: Leaves basal and erect  Large Dense Clump (> 2 feet): N  Bushy (highly branched): N
Height with Seedheads: Greater than 36 inches
Seedhead Structure: Branched - open and spreading  Seedhead Droops: N

Flower Characteristics

Number of Flowers per Spikelet: Multi-flowered  Spikelet Arrangement: End of branches
Awns: Absent   Three Awns: N  Awns Bent: N

Flower and Seedhead Notes: Seedhead 10-15 cm long, branches short with florets nearly to their base, somewhat dense, grayish-green to green mottled with red or purple. Spikelets are ovate, 8-13 flowers. Glandular pit below the spikelets. No glands on lemmas.

Blade Notes: Broad base that narrows, 3-6 mm wide and 5-10 cm long.

Auricles (Ear-like lobes at base of blades): N
Vegetative Notes: Culms tufted, erect to spreading, decumbent at base. Sheaths less than half the length of the internodes, hairy at top and on margins. Ligules 0.2-0.5 mm, fringed with hairs on the margin.

Forage Value: Fair.
